A gold-plated coin featuring a portrait of Walt Whitman has been carefully placed atop each pen cap. Each Fountain Pen features a German 14kt gold plated nib (in either fine or medium point) and utilizes a cartridge/converter filling system.
About Walt Whitman: Whitman was born on May 31st, 1819. Considered by many to be the greatest American poet, his poetry celebrated the freedom and dignity of the individual, sang the praises of democracy, and honored the brotherhood of man. Walt Whitman's Leaves of Grass is often recognized as the most influential volume of poetry in the history of American Literature. In 1830, Whitman left school to work as a printer's apprentice and later became a compositor. In 1838-9, he taught school on Long Island and edited the Long Islander newspaper. He became a full-time journalist by 1841, successfully editing several papers and writing prose and verse for New York and Brooklyn journals.
Walt Whitman's active interest in politics led to the editorship of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle, a Democratic Party paper where he ended up losing his job due to his vehement advocacy of abolition and the "free soil" movement. In 1855, Whitman published a volume of 12 poems at his own expense, Leaves of Grass. (He began work on the now-famous volume in 1847). Reviewers declared him a bold, new voice in poetry. From 1862 to 1865, Whitman's poetry of the Civil War, Drum-Taps (1865), reissued with Sequel to Drum-Taps (1865-66), included his two poems about Abraham Lincoln. “When Lilacs Last in the Dooryard Bloom’d” is considered one of the finest elegies in the English language. His last book, November Boughs, appeared in 1888. Walt Whitman died on March 26th, 1892. His legacy as America’s greatest poet is cemented in the annals of American literature.
Each LeBoeuf Limited Edition Walt Whitman fountain pen is packaged in a special commemorative Walt Whitman Box, which features Walt Whitman’s famous signature. The LeBoeuf Walt Whitman Limited Edition is a stunning tribute to America’s most famous and influential poet, whose poems have delighted readers for generations.
