The 3952 Abalone Shell fountain pen has been crafted from real shells. This distinctive pen then has metal components on the barrel and cap in a rose gold finish. Absolutely stunning!
Not only does it look great, it writes well. The 3952 Abalone Shell fountain pen is then fitted with a German stainless steel nib for exceptional writing.
Included is an ink converter with each pen. No cartridge included.
Note: Extra fine and double broad nibs come in the matching rose gold. All other nib sizes will have a two-tone nib instead.

The pen comes with a small tag with the 3952 logo. Beautiful design, a sparkling barrel with those real abalone shells they use inside. Rose gold trim or accents on the end of the barrel and the cap of the pen. The cap has this beautiful etched design in a guilloche pattern. The 3952 logo engraved on the clip of the pen.
The very end of the barrel of pen has threads to post the pen. I like the way that rose gold has a darker color at the bottom of the threads. The cap is threaded and unscrew and will post by threading it onto the end of the barrel of the pen. Those beautiful threads at the section of the pen as well, with a matching Bock stainless steel nib with the feed on the backside of the pen.
Pretty good sized pen. With it posted it may be a little long. It doesn't feel that it is weighted towards the end too badly because the barrel of the pen is heavy as well with those abalone shells and metal barrel. It is a pretty good balanced pen and does not feel like it's overbalanced at the end.
The section on the pen unscrews. It is a cartridge converter style pen and it does come with an ink converter for use with bottled inks, You can also use a standard international ink cartridge as well if you want to use ink cartridges.

This is the 3952 Abalone Fountain Pen. It comes in a black cardboard box, the 3952 logo on the top of the box lid that slides off. There's a harder shell case inside with the 3952 logo, once again, on the box lid. That lid simply lifts off with the soft velvet black interior. this pen is great, i hope it comes back in stock so i can pick up a second one .
the one a received had a duel color nib... gold with silver accent, i think it's nicer than the one that's in this picture.
i think the cap is my favorite part, as it is machined and fitted beautifully and really makes the hole pen fill like a luxurious item...
There is one major down side to this pen, that buyers should be aware off... the bronze metal connector that connects the ink reservoir, nib and abalone body can come loose, when this happens the nib can stick far enough out that the act of screwing on the cap can bend the nib.
Unfortunately we discovered this after the damaged had been done.
It's also important to note that there are no gold, or gold with silver matching replacement nibs, so if you do damage your nib you will need to settle for a silver nib which in my opinion downgrades look and feel of the pen.
I ended up unbending the nib, but the nib is not as nice as before the accident.

This is my new favorite. It’s perfectly weighted in my hand and it’s hot no drag on any paper I’ve used so far. As for looks and construction, it’s a gorgeous piece.

I was told that 3952 had been the legendary pen in Taiwan. It has been difficult to buy this brand from abroad but now I am so pleased to be able to get it from Pen Chalet. Anyway, I can testify this pen really really lives up to its fame. Style and value may be subjective in some perspectives, but its overall craftsmanship is just excellent. One best design is the close cap that create an air tight vacuum to keep the ink relatively fresh at tip over two weeks. Therefore, this pen never stops pumping out ink consistently and the tip also flexes just right if you want to try a little calligraphy style during writing. Overall, to write with this pen is like skiing on butter snow....it is just so smooth with no hiccup whenever you want to try figure skiing once in a while. Anyway, at this price, just can't go wrong at all. Hope my positive review does not encourage the vendor to raise the retail price. ;0)

I got this pen April, 2018 and it no longer comes with the rose gold plated nib, instead it has a two tone gold plated nib that looks out of place with the rest of the rose gold furnishing of the pen. The nib didn’t write after several flushes, I had to tinker with it - separate the tines a bit - to make the ink flow, after that it was working ok. I ordered a separate rose gold plated nib from another vendor to replace the stock nib so it would look better. Hopefully that nib won’t have the same issues. Overall I don’t think this is a good value for money purchase.

I picked up the pen because it suited so many qualities that I like in a pen for my collection. I was pleasantly surprised too, especially when I didn't have many expectations (despite reading other very favourable reviews). The pen is a little on the heavy side because of the metal, but it has nice balance when writing and drawing. The abalone shells look beautiful and I really like the etched pattern on the cap as well! The nib writes out of the box, consistent and great ink flow with a touch of feedback, typical of bock nibs that I know of. Overall an excellent pen and great value if you're looking for something unique to add to your collection or even as an everyday writer.

An Abalone pen at a great price. If you like Abalone then pick one up. It has a nice nib with a little line variation to boot. Product style is rated above average only because I wish it had an Abalone cap too. A very nice pen indeed.
